A former Alvarado elementary teacher was arrested Friday on one count of having an improper relationship with a student, police say.
Cameron Elizabeth Crist-Mitchell, 27, a former teacher at Alvarado Elementary South, was arrested Friday, police said.
Officials said Crist-Mitchell was placed on administrative leave earlier this month when the investigation into the incident began. She resigned from her position the day she was arrested.
The student, who was 17 at the time of the encounter, is a student at Alvarado High School, police said.
Under Texas law a teacher can be found guilty of having an improper relationship with a student if they engage in sexual contact and if the teacher either works at the same school as the student or within the same school district, regardless of the students age. The charge is a second-degree felony, according to the Texas Penal Code.
Crist-Mitchell is free after posting bond, officials said.
