With a hug and a gift bag, Stephanie King proved that sometimes the simplest things in life can bring happiness this holiday season.
"They don't have a home to celebrate, King said. "They can't come to us so we're going to bring it to them"
Members of the Dallas homeless community poured into a parking lot located at Cadiz and St. Paul streets in Dallas to receive a gift bag.
Each bag contained the essentials for them — from flashlights to hygiene kits.
North Texas families and Dallas' Levine Academy put together the more than 70 gifts bags handed out Sunday.
"The last time we did it, it was only a couple of families," King said. "We didn't have a lot to give. People came out, they saw us, and we noticed that we didn't have enough for other people so we wanted to make it a bit bigger this month."
Homelessness in North Texas remains a harsh reality.
The Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance says there are more than 400 people who call Dallas city streets home for more than a year.
"We can put our difference aside whether it's religious or political and come together in unison to help others it's a beautiful thing," said Elisa Adcock with Levine Academy.
Sunday's event was part of the "Be a Blessing" challenge.
