Some Dallas residents hit the gym Tuesday to get a head start on their New Year resolutions.
Alex Landin didn't waste a minute starting the year off on the right foot -- at Gold's Gym in Uptown.
"Whatever you do on the first day of the year, you'll be doing that for the rest of the year, so I want to get in shape for the rest of the year," he said.
The 36-year-old has a simple resolution -- shed the extra pounds he put on in the past few years.
"I'm getting older -- proud of it, though -- and so I said no more excuses; this is the year I want to go back on top again," Landin said.
Others are joining health clubs for the first time.
Dallas newcomer Larissa Aulov and nearly two dozen others joined LA fitness on Skillman Street.
"We had a heavy meal yesterday and it's a good time to come and just burn some calories," Auloy said. "It's a good time of the day, and it's a good beginning for the New Year."
Losing weight and getting fit is one of the most popular resolutions year after year -- but it's also one of the most often broken.
"Just set short-term goals and make sure that ... you don't have the expectations of making instant results," said Elizabeth Spence, Gold-s Gym personal trainer.
"Most people set their expectations too high at first, but if you set small goals and reach those goals first, you'll be more likely to continue," she said.
Landin said he knows it will take time but has a simple goal.
"I like to eat, so I'll be happy with a four-pack," he said.
